One of India’s biggest multicultural festivals, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, is returning in 2023 on Saturday, February 4.
The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival will be organised from February 4 to 12, 10 am to 10 pm every day.
The theme of the festival is “Past <> Forward”. The festival will host a wide array of programmes in cinema, dance, food, heritage walks, visual art, literature, music, stalls, stand-up comedy, street, urban design and architecture, theatre, and workshops.
Entry to the festival will be free. However, the number of visitors may be restricted as per the venue’s capacity.
The Kala Ghoda festival is organised by Kala Ghoda Association, a non-profit organization. The festival is named after the blackish equestrian statue of Edward VII which used to be located in the fort area of Mumbai. Though this festival is renowned as art festival, its main highlight is that it is a street festival.Though the festival was restricted to the Kala Ghoda region earlier, it has now extended its reach to other regions with similar events also being held in Azad Maidan and Horniman Circle.
The whole region of Kala Ghoda transforms into a pedestrian square with paintings and sculptures displays.
The festival incorporates visual arts, music, theatre, dance, cinema, literature, lectures, seminars and workshops. There is also a Literature section that has book launches, poetry sessions, workshops etc. and conducts panel discussions with popular authors. The festival also includes music and dance performances by popular artists and groups belonging to classical, contemporary, Indian folk and international dance forms. The film section also organizes tributes to famous personalities. Kala Ghoda festival has plenty in store for kids, with the festival including plenty of fun filled activities. The festival also has some heritage walks that provide people an insight into the heritage and culture of Mumbai. In short, the festival presents plenty of events which reflect the rich history of art in Mumbai.
The nine-day long festival is a prominent attraction for thousands of visitors from all over the country as well as from the world.
