The 10th edition of LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA concluded on a high note with implementable solutions for use of lasers, photonics and optical technologies in various applications for Indian manufacturing industry. The show reinforced its credibility as ‘India’s platform for laser and optical technologies – components, systems and applications.’

Through strong partnerships with the industry through industry associations – LIAI, ILA, SPECTARIS, OSI and AMSI, the event focused on creating a clear roadmap for Industry 4.0 and producing world class products from India by offering cost effective solutions for use of lasers and photonics, optical technologies, 3D printing and additive manufacturing for various industry applications.

Regarding the excellent response to the tradeshow, Dr. Lalit Kumar, President, Laser Industries Association of India (LIAI), said “We received encouraging response for this latest edition of the trade show. Today, laser technology is critical to many industries, ranging from medicine and diagnostics to gems and jewellery and even manufacturing of automotives and electronics. What happens in the laser and photonics industry impacts the entire economy through manufacturing output. Hence, we are receiving interest from multiple user industries and that is reflected through the footfalls at this trade show. This has become an unmissable event for our industry.”

One of the major highlights of the 2022 edition was the industry-academia partnership through IEEE Photonics Society, IEEE Bombay Section at IIT Bombay in the form of Photonics and Lasers – Industry Meet (PLAIM), which brought together global experts and researchers to deliberate on emerging trends, opportunities, challenges confronting the industry and the need for boost innovation and R&D by enabling commercialization of technologies developed by the leading researchers in the country. The platform also presented 15 students with an opportunity to showcase their ideas and innovations at the poster zone.

Speaking at the meet, Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director of National Physics Laboratory said, “There is tremendous potential in laser technologies but their commercial prospects as well as challenges need to be deliberated upon. This trade show offers the platform to discuss the emerging applications and solutions for mutual growth. Photonics and Lasers Academia Industry Meet (PLAIM) has emerged as the right platform to forge industry-academia partnerships and work towards the common goal of shared prosperity for the country.”

Another special highlight was the launch of a new laser source by IFA associated with SLTL group. “SLTL’s focus has always been on Make in India initiative and we are happy to share that we have launched our new IFA Laser source in LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2022. We have always believed that India must have its own fundamental laser source, which is important for the country and with this ambition our Lasers was born. We are the only laser source manufacturing company in India and SLTL Group is proud of this accomplishment”- Maulik Patel, Director, SLTL Group said.

LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2022 was spread across 5,000 square meters, with 88 exhibitors from 8 countries showcasing more than 1,000 products. A total of 5,796 visitors attended the trade fairs and the supporting programs to see the futuristic solutions on display at the exhibition ground.

Regarding the scale and impact of the LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2022, Bhupinder Singh, CEO, Messe Muenchen India says, “We are delighted with the response to this latest edition. Across multiple applications and user industries, laser is recognised as a powerful solution. However, several challenges—like cost and compatibility of the machinery to Indian market conditions—prevent its mass adoption. We are glad to see some solutions emerge at this year’s fair, and we are confident of creating more networks and partnerships for this industry in the future editions. We are delighted to further create industry-academia partnerships through our supporting program – PLAIM focusing on boosting innovation and R&D in this field”

Dr. Martin Lechner, Executive Director at Messe München, adds: “Today, the Indian manufacturing landscape is among the most vibrant in the world. This is reflected in the footfalls and dynamic participation at LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2022. Our trade shows in Munich and Shanghai have catalysed growth in this industry on a global scale, and we are glad to see the show in India delivering value to all stakeholders in the Indian industry.”
