In the future, the federal states should decide when the organization of trade fairs is permitted in compliance with the hygiene and distance rules. At the same time, trade fairs are no longer considered part of the major events category. This is the result of the agreements between the federal government and the federal states on May 6, 2020.
The managing director of the AUMA – Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, Jörn Holtmeier: “This is an important step in the direction of restarting the trade fair industry, because trade fairs will provide important stimuli in the short and medium term as innovation and cooperation platforms for the recovery of the German economy.” German trade fair organizers and AUMA are available to advise the competent authorities with their expertise and experience in carrying out trade fairs. AUMA has already developed proposals for this which also meet high requirements for hygiene and distance rules when carrying out trade fairs.
An important signal for the trade fairs, according to Jörn Holtmeier, is the gradual opening of the hotel and restaurant businesses planned by the federal states. Decisive for the success of trade fairs in the second half of the year is the opening of the borders and the resumption of cross-border business travel.
