To be held on 10th and 11th March at Lotus Hall, BMICH, Colombo, Sri Lanka the forum is supported by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Construction Industry, Green Building Council of Sri Lanka. The Renewable Energy Growth Forum is an allinclusive and reputed platform backed by the expertise of Informa Markets in India’s Renewable Energy India Expo – Asia’s largest and most influential exhibition and other events across Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Vietnam and Thailand, amongst others catering to the RE sector. Sri Lanka is one of the Chapters of the RE Growth Forum along with Chandigarh and Hubli in India.

Minister Duminda Dissanayake, State Minister of Solar, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Projects Development, Government of Sri Lanka and Dr. Rakesh Pandey, First Secretary (Economic and Commercial), High Commission of India, Colombo along with luminaries from the Sri Lankan and Indian RE industry.

The Sri Lankan government aims to be an energy self-sufficient nation by 2030. Its objective is to increase the power generation capacity of the country from the existing 4,043 megawatts (MW) to 6,900 MW by 2025 with a significant increase in renewable energy. Sri Lanka has already achieved a grid connectivity of 98 percent, which is relatively high by South Asian standards. Electricity in Sri Lanka is generated using three primary sources: thermal power which includes coal and fuel oil, hydropower, and other non-conventional renewable energy sources (solar power and wind power).

Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets in India

Speaking on the return of the Renewable Energy Growth Forum, Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets in India said, “Renewable energy sources can be viewed as the most fitting solution worldwide to alleviate the energy problem especially given the operation and maintenance cost are also very low as compared to the conventional energy plants. Sri Lanka being one of the new emerging RE countries on the block has excellent conditions for generating electricity from renewable sources. However, more than half its energy demand is met by fossil fuels. While the Sri Lankan Ministry of Energy initiated the implementation of a nationwide programme for the expansion of solar energy, the country aims to equip one million households by 2025 with photovoltaic systems that will feed an additional 1,000 megawatts into the power grid. With Public lacking information about alternative energy sources and conscious use of electricity, the RE Growth Forum aims to create awareness and initiate discussions on the way forward for the industry.”

Association, Sri Lanka

Speaking on the upcoming RE Growth Forum, Mr. Kushan Jayasuriya, President – Solar Industries Association, Sri Lanka said, “The foremost resource in achieving the government policy of 70% RE would be solar photovoltaics. With over 0.5 GWp of Solar integration already in place, combined with aggressive implementation models will enable our utility to produce sustainable energy systems using natural resources that are future-ready. The 4th edition of Renewable Energy Growth Forum – Sri Lanka Chapter expected to play a vital role to address the country Mission.”
