In the wake of the successful UP International Trade Show-2024 (UPITS-2024) at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled plans to extend similar trade events to divisional levels across the state.
The initiative aims to commence with trade shows in five divisional headquarters, including Varanasi, Lucknow, and Bareilly, with efforts underway to secure exhibition centres in each divisional capital.
The announcement came during a press conference at Lok Bhavan, Lucknow, where MSME Minister Rakesh Sachan and Principal Secretary Alok Kumar outlined the government’s strategy. Minister Sachan lauded the second edition of UPITS-2024, stating it had surpassed expectations and set new benchmarks compared to its 2023 predecessor. He emphasised that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath envisions replicating this success at the divisional level, with officials tasked to develop a comprehensive action plan.
Principal Secretary Kumar elaborated on the dual objectives of UPITS-2024: providing a world-class platform for small industries and showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s crafts, cuisine, and culture to a global audience.
The focus has now shifted to organising similar events at the divisional level, which, while not expected to draw international buyers, aim to attract participation from other states. Kumar addressed the state’s future marketing strategies, noting that Uttar Pradesh has often been perceived as a ‘mind-locked state’ rather than merely landlocked, due to its traditional focus on local markets.
He expressed confidence that these trade shows would help broaden the state’s economic horizons. The government’s plans also include leveraging Unity Malls in Agra, Varanasi, and Lucknow to showcase artisan products. Kumar revealed that a mall in Bareilly, acquired through the Smart City initiative, is set to become operational soon, complementing existing facilities in Noida.
With provisions made in five divisions, the state has requested the central government’s support in establishing exhibition centres in all divisional headquarters, aiming to provide affordable platforms for artisans to display their products.
This initiative marks a significant step in Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to boost its economic profile and support local industries by creating broader market access and visibility for the state’s diverse products and cultural offerings.
